Timber Folding Sliding Doors

Softwood or Hardwood Bifold Doors

softwood bifold doorFolding sliding doors are high on the ‘must have’ list for anyone improving their home or adding a new extension as they truly offer the opportunity to blend your living area with your garden. They are used extensively on most of the popular ‘make-over’ television programmes and magazines due to their ability to instantly change your living style by providing an unobstructed opening onto your patio or directly into your garden.

A timber bifolding door provides a truly traditional, natural looking door that has slim sight lines and being timber adds a feeling of natural warmth to the room.  Timber folding sliding doors are a very popular choice in coastal locations as external doors and are extensively used as internal doors for closing off the conservatory from the main home.

External Bifold Doors

FD2U timber bifold doors are manufactured from engineered timber to ensure structural stability and to prevent twisting or warping. The range is available in softwood or meranti hardwood with European Oak also available to special order.

Our timber bifold doors are all manufactured to order and are the ideal choice for balcony doors, french doors or patio doors whether you are replacing existing doors or they are part of a new build extension.  All doors comply with current building regulations and as timber is a natural insulator they can offer the best thermal performance when compared to upvc or aluminium bifold doors.

Factory Finished Stain or Paint Finishes

factory finishesAll our timber bifold doors are supplied factory finished in a wide range of translucent stains or you can choose from hundreds of different RAL paint colours available in either matt or satin finish.  Factory finished doors are recommended as buying unfinished doors will mean that you are responsible for applying multiple coats of paint or stain to ensure the warranty is not invalidated.  The cost of unfinished doors may look attractive but not only is this process very time consuming but it will often delay your installation programme.  Our factory finished bifold doors are delivered ready to fit.

Flush Threshold

flush thresholdA flush threshold is the most common request for folding doors and our timber folding sliding doors can be supplied with an inline out of sight track system. The aluminium threshold track system is ony 52mm high and up to 45mm can be sunk into the floor providing the opportunity to merge internal and external floor levels eliminating the requirement for a higher step-over over threshold. Other threshold options and external cills can also be provided. All threshold options are here.

Enviromentally Sourced Timber

FD2U timber bifold doors are manufactured using environmentally sourced timber from sustainable forests our softwood and hardwood bi-folding doors are manufactured under tight quality control guidelines by fully trained craftsmen. For extra strength and to prevent warping the timber is engineered which involves splicing the profiles into three pieces and then gluing them back together under high pressure with the timber grains running in opposing directions. This helps to prevent bowing and reduces expansion ensuring you new softwood or hardwood folding door provides you with years of trouble-free use.

Energy Efficient

energy ratingAs timber is one of the best natural insulators our range of softwood and hardwood bi-folding doors achieves an exceptionally low 1.4 U value when glazed with our argon filled STAYCOOL double glazing ensuring optimum heat retention during the colder months of the year. The doors also benefit from high performance weatherseals providing a fully weather-tight folding door installation.

High Security

We take security very seriously which is why we fit hardened steel hook bolt and shoot bolt locking systems to traffic doors and intermediate panels are secured by internally operated shoot bolts to top and bottom of the door.

The high security hinge fixings are fully concealed when the door is closed and the individual door panels feature an interlocking facility that prevent the panels being forced apart by an intruder.

Internal glazing beads also prevent the double glazed sealed units from being removed from the outside.

Fold Flat Handles

Traffic doors are fitted with a security lever/lever handle that incorporates a cylinder guard to prevent tampering with the lock cylinder from the outside.

Replace your existing Patio or French Door

Converting an existing patio door installation to a sliding folding door in factory finished softwood or hardwood creates a totally different aspect by opening up your home and providing unobstructed access to your garden. Great for barbecues as it merges your living space with your garden and eliminates the narrow openings usually found in patio doors as can be seen above.
