Factory finished hardwood bifolding doors

Bifold doors or folding doors are high on the ‘must have’ list for anyone improving their home or adding a new extension as they truly offer the opportunity to blend your living area with your garden. They are used extensively on most of the popular ‘make-over’ television programmes and magazines due to their ability to instantly change your living style by providing an unobstructed opening onto your patio or directly into your garden.

Timber folding doors provide a truly traditional, natural looking door that has slim sight lines and being timber adds a feeling of natural warmth to the room.  Timber bifold doors are a very popular choice in coastal locations as external doors and are extensively used as internal doors for closing off the conservatory from the main home.

External folding sliding doors

External folding sliding doors

FD2U timber bifold doors are manufactured from engineered timber to ensure structural stability and to help prevent twisting or warping. The range is available in standard Eucalyptus hardwood with European Oak also available to special order.  All our folding sliding doors are factory finished with either RAL colour paint finish or translucent stain finishes.

Our hardwood bifold doors are manufactured to order and are ideal for external use for balconies and patios whether you are replacing existing doors or they are part of a new build extension.  All doors comply with current building regulations and as timber is a natural insulator they can offer the best thermal performance when compared to upvc or aluminium bifold doors.

Internal folding sliding doors

Internal folding sliding doors

Our hardwood bifold doors can also be used as an internal room divider or to separate your conservatory from the main house. Building regulations stipulate that such a door must be of external quality and our range of timber folding doors conforms with Doc L of the Building Regulations and are also part M compliant for wheel chair access.

Available in heights up to 2.5 metres and widths up to 6 metres your new hardwood folding door is made to measure and supplied to your individual specification.

Factory Finished Stain or Paint Finishes

Factory Finished Stain or Paint Finishes

All our timber bifold doors are supplied factory finished in a wide range of translucent stains or you can choose from hundreds of different RAL paint colours available in either matt or satin finish.  Factory finished doors are recommended as buying an unfinished product will mean that you are responsible for applying multiple coats of paint or stain to ensure the warranty is not invalidated.  The cost of unfinished products may look attractive but not only is this process of applying stain and varnish very time consuming but it will often delay your installation programme.  Our factory finished range of timber bi folding sliding doors are delivered ready to fit.

Flush Threshold

Flush Threshold

A flush threshold is the most common request and our timber folding sliding doors can be supplied with an inline out of sight track system. The aluminium threshold track system is ony 52mm high and up to 45mm can be sunk into the floor providing the opportunity to merge internal and external floor levels eliminating the requirement for a higher step-over over threshold. Other threshold options and external cills can also be provided.

Enviromentally Sourced Timber

Enviromentally Sourced Timber

FD2U hardwood bifolding doors are manufactured using environmentally sourced timber from sustainable forests and our softwood and hardwood bi-folding doors are manufactured under tight quality control guidelines by fully trained craftsmen. For extra strength and to prevent warping the timber is engineered which involves splicing the profiles into three pieces and then gluing them back together under high pressure with the timber grains running in opposing directions. This helps to prevent bowing and reduces expansion ensuring you new timber bifold door provides you with years of trouble-free use.

As timber is one of the best natural insulators our range of softwood and hardwood folding doors achieve an exceptionally low 1.4 U value when glazed with our argon filled STAYCOOL double glazing ensuring optimum heat retention during the colder months of the year. The doors also benefit from high performance weatherseals providing a fully weather-tight folding door installation.

High Security

High Security

We take security very seriously which is why we fit hardened steel hook bolt and shoot bolt locking systems to traffic doors and intermediate panels are secured by internally operated shoot bolts to top and bottom of intermediate panels.

The high security hinge fixings are fully concealed when the door is closed and the individual door panels feature an interlocking facility that prevent the panels being forced apart by an intruder.

Internal glazing beads also prevent the double glazed sealed units from being removed from the outside.

Fold Flat Handles

Specially designed fold flat handles are fitted to intermediate panels of our folding doors to operate the shoot bolt locking facility and also allow the panels to stack against each other when fully open.

Traffic doors are fitted with a security lever/lever handle that incorporates a high security key cylinder complete with 3 keys. The hardened steel high security multi-point lock features hook-bolt and shoot-bolt locking as shown here.
